“Marcus, you told me you were separated.”
His expression changed.
I felt the room tighten around us.
– ¿Qué? Diane susurró.
Priscilla tragó.
“You said your marriage was over. You told me you and Caroline had been living separate lives for more than a year. You said the divorce papers were practically finished.”
I looked at my husband.
No lo negó lo suficientemente rápido.
La voz de Priscilla tembló.
“You brought me here tonight to meet your mother. You told me she wanted to welcome me into the family.”
Diane looked horrified.
“Nunca dije eso”.
Priscilla la miró.
“You told me Caroline was only staying in the marriage because she depended on Marcus financially.”
La cara de Diane se volvió blanca.
For the first time that night, I almost felt sorry for Priscilla.
Casi.
Ella había entrado a sabiendas en una relación con un hombre casado, pero Marcus le había alimentado con una historia cuidadosamente construida en la que él era el marido atrapado y yo era el obstáculo que se interponía entre él y la felicidad.
