PARTE 2 – 3- 4- 5

No hay arrogancia.

No hay órdenes impacientes.

He sounded frightened.

“Chloe, I know what you think happened. But you don’t understand.”

Sostuve el teléfono contra mi oído.

Dominic was speaking to someone on his end.

Then he returned to me.

“Mi gente se está acercando al edificio”.

Richard knocked harder.

“Open the door.”

No respondí.

De repente, dijo: “Nunca quise que perdieras todo”.

That almost made me laugh.

Almost.

Instead, I felt anger rise through my fear.

“You told seventeen restaurants not to hire me!”

There was silence.

Then Richard said, “I was trying to make you leave Boston.”

My stomach dropped.

“¿Por qué?”

He didn’t answer.

“Richard, ¿por qué?”

His next words were barely audible through the door.

“Because you were supposed to stay away from that table.”

Miré hacia la ventana.

Un SUV negro se había detenido afuera.

Alguien salió.

Entonces oí pasos corriendo por la escalera.
